Adviser & Student of the Month

We are honored to recognize these educators and students who have embraced Jostens Yearbook philosophies and are helping their school celebrate moments that matter.

November 2019

Mindi Morin, adviser

bellarmine preparatory school [WA] || Rep: jackie & andrew paffrath

Mindi Morin is a champions her yearbook staff by celebrating their work in very public ways. Morin’s nominator, rep Jackie Paffrath, noted “Mindi has gone above and beyond to build up her yearbook program. She has made the entire school community aware of the staff’s accomplishments. When they won the Excellence award, she had the school post it on the reader board for everyone to see. When they made it into the Look Book, she ordered cake for the entire school at lunch time and had the yearbook staff recognized on stage in front of their classmates. Everyone was invited to celebrate! Ms. Morin also started a yearbook Instagram account where she posts a Photo of the Week and for staff recognition. She brings encouraging vibes to every situation, has made every deadline, and truly cares about the school’s yearbook. As a result, more people are interested in joining yearbook.”

TIPS FOR SUCCESS

HEARTBEAT // Listen to the “heartbeat” of your school. Capture the spirit and uniqueness of your students. The yearbook staff will then embrace the yearbook and take ownership of capturing your school’s spirit.

INCLUSIVITY // The yearbook students work extremely hard to capture the spirit of our school and to feature everyone’s talents, from football to theater and everything in between. The diversity makes our yearbook interesting so that students want to take time to read and look through it. Your yearbook is for ALL!

BELIEF IN STUDENTS // Students have creative ideas that I encourage daily. I compliment their amazing work. We also have “Fun-day Fridays” where I bring treats and we take a moment to celebrate our hard work.

BEST TOOL // The Jostens best tool is my reps, Jackie & Andrew Paffrath. They have been so encouraging and supportive. They send out helpful hints, check-in regularly, meet up for coffee to show me new “tricks” and ideas. My Jostens reps are priceless!

Rebecca Linford, student

KARL G MAESER PREPARATORY ACADEMY [UT] || Rep: AARON LYONS

Rebecca’s nominator, student Gracie, said “Rebecca is constantly helping her yearbook staff. She is incredibly selfless, the glue that holds our team together and is many people’s inspiration.”

“Rebecca is a detailed person,” her adviser Natalie Gerber states. “She knows at a glance if a gutter is two picas instead of the requisite three picas. Rebecca sets clear expectations, is constructive and inspiring. She is focused on helping younger team members learn and grow.”

Rebecca reflects, “I love being able to work in many avenues for one project; photography, writing, designing. I also love capturing and compiling the moments that make up high school. These moments, different for everyone, shape each student into better people. To be able to find that moment for each person is such a privilege.”

At Jostens, we love seeing students learn about their passions and skills through the yearbook experience. Rebecca’s talents are making an impact on her school right now and will surely impact her future in a positive way.
